Narcotics Investigations Division

This section investigates the illegal use, cultivation, sale, distribution, and smuggling of illegal drugs and the operation of illegal enterprises involving illegal drugs.   The Narcotics Investigation Section also has two officers assigned to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) various tasks force to include one officer assigned to the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA), a multi-jurisdictional task force.  HIDTA is comprised of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Louisiana State Police, New Orleans Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and the Internal Revenue Service. The second officer is assigned to a Diversion Task Force which addresses the growing problem of unethical doctors and those fraudulently obtaining pharmaceuticals. The Narcotics Investigation Section is also charged with the proactive investigation of criminal activity involving vice and moral offenses such as prostitution, pornography, pandering, illegal gambling, violations involving alcoholic beverages, and other obscenities.  Whenever necessary, this section is called on standby.  The Narcotics Investigation Section includes a Street Level Disruption Unit, which is comprised of four officers.  These officers are deployed several days per week where traffickers are distributing narcotics.

To enable community-minded citizens to report drug-related crimes anonymously, the department has implemented a 24-hour hotline at (504) 466-3073.  Callers should leave as much detail as possible in their recorded message and NID will conduct an investigation based upon the information provided.
