The Special Weapons and Tactics
Team (S.W.A.T.) responds to critical incidents such as the
execution of high-risk warrants, barricaded subjects, and
hostage situations. The use of a highly trained, highly skilled
unit such as the S.W.A.T. Team in these situations has been
shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury or loss of life
to citizens, police officers and suspects alike. Members of the
S.W.A.T. Team attend a basic S.W.A.T. school, and afterwards
receive monthly training in a wide array of weapons and tactics.
Members of the S.W.A.T. Team are required to maintain a higher
level of physical fitness and firearms proficiency than other
members of the department.
