Captain Richard Mottley

Investigative and Support Services

Captain Richard Mottley began his career in May of 1981 with the Kenner Police Department, Airport Division. In 1983, he was assigned to the Kenner Police Department, Patrol Division Night Watch. In 1985, he was assigned to the Kenner Police Department Criminal Investigation, Narcotics Section until 1990, when he was reassigned to the Kenner Police Department Patrol Division. In 1991, he was assigned to the Kenner Police Department Tactical Service Section, Street Crimes Unit, until 1992 when he was again assigned to the Kenner Police Department Criminal Investigation, Narcotics Section until 1996, when he was transferred to the Kenner Police Department Internal Affairs Division.

He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 1997 and was assigned to the Kenner Police Patrol Division as a Shift Supervisor on the Night Watch. He worked as a shift supervisor several years on different Patrol Watches until 2004. In 2004, he was assigned as Supervisory Sergeant in the Kenner Police Department Criminal Investigation, Narcotics Section as the Narcotics Field Supervisor.

On July 1, 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant serving on several different Patrol Division Squads. He attended the Southwestern Legal Institute in Plano, Texas completing course in Police Supervision and Police Management. He graduated the F.B.I. National Academy Session #232 in March of 2008. Since graduation he has served as Platoon Commander.

On January 15, 2014 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and assumed command of the Kenner Police Department Technical Services Bureau, which is comprised of the Communications Section, Jail Section, Community Education Section, Court Services Section, and the Facilities Management Section.
