Individuals suspected of straw purchase lead officer in chase, two arrested

 

KENNER - On Sunday, June 27, 2010, at 2:19 p.m., Kenner Police officers attempted to stop a 2002 Nissan Sentra that was possibly involved in a straw purchase at the Great Southern Gun & Knife show which was being held at the Pontchartrain Center, located at 4545 Williams Boulevard in Kenner.  As officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the unidentified driver refused to stop the vehicle and led officers on a vehicle chase.  Four male subjects carrying guns abandoned the car in the Greenlawn Subdivision, located in the 1900 block of 40th Street in Kenner. 

As officers gave chase, they were able to locate two of the four suspects.  Arrested were Kenneth Boyd, 23, who provided the address of 143 Mott Lane, Des Allemands and Arlester Washington, 26, who provided a home address in Castro Valley, California.  Both were charged with the crimes of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana 29.9 grams, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, illegal carrying of weapons and flight from an officer. 

Officers recovered 29.9 grams of marijuana, one box of .50 caliber ammunition, one box of 9 mm ammunition, one 9 mm magazine, an empty Glock pistol box and a loaded .380 semi automatic handgun.  Kenneth Boyd has a felony conviction and is presently on probation for attempted distribution of cocaine until 10-3-2012.  Arlester Washington has a felony conviction in Oakland, California and is on probation for possession of a controlled substance.  The identities of the two suspects that got away are unknown. 

Officer Salvador Mangano is in charge of the investigation.
