Kenner man placed on probation Tuesday; arrested Wednesday

KENNER - A Kenner man who plead guilty Tuesday in 24th Judicial Court and was given a two year suspended sentence / probation, was arrested Wednesday (June 2, 2010) for theft valued at over $500.00.

On Tuesday, June 1, 2010, Brian Messmer, 41, who provided the home address of 2410 24th Street in Kenner, pled guilty to possession of cocaine and unauthorized use of an access card.  At the time Messmer pled guilty, he was given a two year suspended sentence and placed on active probation.  The next morning (Wednesday, June 2, 2010) Messmer climbed up onto a rooftop of a business located in the 3700 block of Williams Boulevard.  Messmer damaged two air conditioner units by removing the condensers from the air conditioner unit that he attempted to sell at a nearby scrap yard.  Messmer was located at a nearby scrap yard where he was arrested.

Messmer was interviewed by Detective Jesse Johnson and confessed to the incident.  Messmer confessed to 5 thefts that occurred between May 21, 2010 and June 2, 2010 in Kenner.  The thefts occurred at the following locations:

May 21, 2010              2220 Idaho Avenue, Kenner

May 21, 2010              2469 Idaho Avenue, Kenner

May 24, 2010              2250 25th Street, Kenner

May 27, 2010              2508 20th Street, Kenner

June 2, 2010               3741 Williams Boulevard, Kenner

In each of the thefts, Messmer removed the condensers from air conditioner units and sold them as scrap metal.  Messmer remains in the custody of the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.  No bond has been set at the time of this release.  Due to Messmer committing the June 2nd offense after he was placed on active probation, Jefferson Parish Probation and Parole (Eastbank) charged Messmer with probation violations.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
