KENNER POLICE INVESTIGATING MURDER / SUSPECT ARRESTED

Kenner - The Kenner Police Department is presently investigating a murder that occurred in the wooded area just north of the 900 block of Curtis Avenue, in Kenner.  At approximately, 3:29 p.m., 42-year-old Willie Hall, of 909 Curtis Avenue, Kenner, dialed 9-1-1 and advised police dispatchers that he had been shot and was lying in the wooded area off Curtis Avenue.  Officers arrived on scene and found Hall in the wooded area.  Hall had been shot multiple times.  Prior to Hall succumbing to his injuries, Hall told police dispatchers that he was shot by Roy Garland, 61, of 1010 Minden Avenue, in Kenner.

Kenner Police set a perimeter and located Garland in the 100 block of W. Airline Highway where he was taken into custody.  At the time of Garlandís arrest, he was wearing clothing identical to clothing described by Hall that was covered in blood.  At the present time the motive to the shooting is unknown.  Kenner Police believed they have recovered the murder weapon a .38 caliber revolver.  Garland was charged with the crime of second degree murder.  He remains in custody.

Garland has a lengthy criminal history, which shows he has a prior conviction for second degree murder in which he received a life sentence in October 1975.  His sentence was later commuted to 20 years with restoration of parole eligibility by Governor Edwin Edwards.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.

Detective Jesse Johnson is in charge of the investigation.
