Theodore Roosevelt Middle School student booked with aggravated arson

Kenner - A 13 year old middle school student was arrested Thursday (February 3, 2011) and charged with the crime of aggravated arson.  The 13 year old who attends Roosevelt Middle School was arrested after he used a cigarette lighter to set a piece of paper on fire.  The student threw the ignited paper beneath the enclosed bleachers at the Theodore Roosevelt Middle School gymnasium, located at 3315 Maine Street, in Kenner.  The ignited paper caused another trash fire to ensue.  There were approximately 58 individuals in the gymnasium when the fire was set.  The gymnasium was evacuated and the fire quickly extinguished.

Kenner Police School Resource Officer Larry Cosse is in charge of the investigation.
