Kenner man arrested for burglarizing unlocked vehicles
Kenner-A Kenner man has been arrested for burglarizing unlocked vehicles. At approximately 09:18 p.m., on Thursday, January 10, 2013, the Kenner Police Department received a telephone call from an alert citizen reporting that a black male, wearing Khaki pants, a red shirt, and in possession of a backpack was pulling on vehicle door handles in the 1600 block of Hudson Street in Kenner. Officers responding to the area located Donald Jones, 18, who claims he is homeless, but has a last known address in the 2600 block of Helena Street in Kenner. Officers located Jones at 17th & Hudson Street, where he dropped a backpack and began running in an attempt to elude police. After scaling several residential fences, Jones was captured and detained in a rear yard located in the 1700 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, in Kenner.
As a result of the investigation, officers were able to confirm that Jones had burglarized unlocked vehicles in the 1300, 1400, and 1600 blocks of Hudson Street. In addition, Kenner Police were already searching for Jones, in reference to an earlier vehicle burglary that was reported at 09:30 a.m., in the 100 block of Blair Avenue, in Kenner. In the Blair Avenue vehicle burglary, the victim discovered there unlocked vehicle burglarized. Inside the vehicle was Jonesí identification card that he mistakenly dropped while burglarizing the vehicle.
Property taken in the vehicle burglaries consisted of U.S. currency, loose change, telephone & computer chargers, Xbox games, sunglasses, CDís, DVDís, Sony PSPís, computers, and other loose property left inside the vehicle. The Kenner Police Department believes Jones has been involved in other burglaries. The investigation is continuing.
At the time of this press release, Jones has been arrested and charged with the crimes of simple burglary (5-counts), attempt simple burglary (1-count), illegal possession of stolen things (4-counts), and resisting an officer (1-count). Jones remains in custody, no bond has been set.
