Intoxicated passengers allow 10 year old to drive

Kenner-Two people have been arrested after allowing a 10-year-old to drive a vehicle.  At approximately 1:17 a.m., the Kenner Police Department  received a telephone call reporting a vehicle being driven recklessly on the I-10 Westbound in Kenner, swerving in an out of the lane of travel and traveling at a low rate of speed.  Officers responding to the call located the vehicle, in the 1300 block of 31st Street, in Kenner, after the vehicle exited Williams Boulevard and struck a curb while turning on 31st Street. 

 Upon stopping the vehicle, a 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe, Kenner Police Officers discovered that the vehicle was driven by a 10-year-old.  The passengers inside the vehicle, Brenda Byrd, 54, who provided the home address of 1013 31st Street, apartment 27, Kenner, and Sheila Joiner, 48, who provided a home address of 1013 31st Street, apartment 19, Kenner, was found to be intoxicated inside the vehicle.  Speaking to Byrd and Joiner, both admitted to instructing the 10-year-old to drive the vehicle due to their level of intoxication. 

 Kenner Police have arrested both Byrd and Joiner charging them with the crimes of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and allowing an unlicensed driver operate a motor vehicle.   At the time of this press release, both remain in custody, no bond has been set.   The 10-year-old as well as a 15-year-old passenger was placed in protective custody and released to family members.
