Kenner man arrested after firing a shotgun at his wife during a domestic disturbance

Kenner - The Kenner Police Department has arrested Charles Gussett, 63, of 2102 Iowa Avenue, in Kenner.  Gussett was charged with the crimes of attempted manslaughter, domestic abuse battery, aggravated criminal damage to property, and possessing a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.    

 On Friday, October 25, 2013, the Kenner Police Department responded to a report of gunshots in the 2100 block of Iowa Avenue, in Kenner.  There Kenner Police Officers learned that Charles Gussett had been involved in a domestic disturbance with his wife.  During the argument the situation escalated in which Gussett physical assaulted his wife of two years, and then armed himself with a shotgun.   As the victim fled the residence, Gussett exited the residence and fired the shotgun at his wife missing her and struck a nearby occupied residence causing damage. 

 The shotgun utilized in the shooting was recovered and found to be a single barrel 12 gauge shotgun.  Immediately after the incident, Gussett fled the location and was taken into custody yesterday (Sunday, October 27, 2013), after he returned to the residence.  At the time of this press release, Gussett remains in custody, no bond has been set. 

 Gussett is prevented from owning and / or possessing a firearm due to two previous armed robbery convictions.
