Metairie man arrested in Kenner robbery

Kenner - On Wednesday, April  9, 2014, Brent McConnell, 34, who provided the home address of 5608 Arlene Street, Metairie, was arrested by the Kenner Police Department and charged with the crimes of simple robbery, simple battery of the infirmed (victim 65 years old), and simple criminal damage to property valued at $350.00.

At 3:52 p.m., (Wednesday, April 9, 2014) Kenner Police responded to a robbery that had just occurred at the KNM Convenience Store, located at 4240 Williams Boulevard, Suite 5, in Kenner.  Officers arrived within one minute of the call and were directed by witnesses to the Pelican Bay apartments located at 2150 42nd Street, Kenner, where they located McConnell trying to enter a gate at the location.

McConnell was detained at which time it was learned that he (McConnell) had entered the store, placed a candy bar on the counter.  McConnell then ran behind the counter, placed the 65 year old female victim in a headlock, choked her, and pushed her against the counter, knocking her glasses off.  McConnell then grabbed the cash register and ran out the store with it to the rear of the location where he smashed the cash register on the ground and removed the cash from within.

McConnell was interviewed by Detective Michael Archuleta and attributed his actions to financial problems and having no money.   At the time of this press release, McConnell remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Chief Steve Caraway encourages anyone with information concerning Brent McConnell or this robbery to call the Kenner Police Officer Brad Ricke at (504) 712-2200 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
