Kenner man accused of molesting his great-grandchildren

Authorities arrested a Kenner man accused of molesting his great-grandchildren. The 62-year-old suspect was booked Thursday (Feb. 20) with the aggravated incest of his 3-year-old great-granddaughter and his 4-year-old great-grandson by marriage, said Sgt. Brian McGregor, spokesman for the Kenner Police.

NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune is not naming the suspect to protect the identities of the victims.

The abuse occurred in the latter part of 2013, McGregor said. The great-grandfather is accused of raping the girl and inappropriately touching the boy at his Kenner home.

The children told their parents about the abuse, and the siblings were taken to Children's Hospital in New Orleans. Hospital officials reported the molestation to Kenner Police on Dec. 31, McGregor said.

In addition to the incest charges, the suspect was booked with two counts of molestation of a juvenile, two counts of sexual battery and aggravated rape of a victim under 13. The great-grandfather was still being held Friday (Feb. 21) at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna on a $550,000 bond.

The suspect has faced incest allegations in the past, according to authorities. He was accused of molesting his stepdaughter starting in 1972 when she was 8 years old, McGregor said.

The stepdaughter did not reveal the abuse until 1992. The Jefferson Parish district attorney's office refused the charges on that case, McGregor said.

Kenner Police believe the suspect could have other victims. The case is still under investigation.
