Elderly sitter arrested for theft of assets

Kenner - Two elderly victims who solicited sitter services later learned that the sitter who was supposedly there to help them had stolen banking account information and utilized it for personal gain.

In July 2013, the 92 and 80 year old victims solicited services from Comfort Keepers, in Metairie.  A female sitter identified as Brandy McCadney, 29, who provided the home address of 2209 Desire Street, in New Orleans, was sent to the victims’ home.  Brandy McCadney was responsible for preparing meals, minor medical assistance, running errands, and driving the victims to appointments.

In September 2013, the victims received a telephone call from Regions Bank informing them of several unusual withdrawals and spending from their checking account.  During the telephone conversation, Brandy McCadney stood up and said that had to leave for an appointment and abruptly left the residence never to return.  The victims met with bank representatives at which time it was discovered that there were sixteen transactions completed at a Wal-Mart, thirteen transactions from a Chase ATM, and seven transactions from the Regions Bank ATM, all in Kenner.  The total amount of the unauthorized transactions and withdrawals was $13,199.02.   After obtaining the information from the bank, the victims then contacted the Kenner Police Department to report the theft and their suspicions concerning Brandy McCadney.

Kenner Police Detective Jeff Adams who was tasked with the follow up investigation was able to obtain video from multiple locations which verified the victims’ suspicions that Brandy McCadney was responsible for the unauthorized transactions and withdrawals from the victims account.

On Friday (January 17, 2014), Brandy McCadney was arrested by members of the Kenner Police Department and members of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence Center after an arrest warrant was issued for her arrest.  Brandy McCadney was charged with the crimes of theft of assets of an aged or disabled person valued at $13,199.02 and access device fraud.     At the time of this press release, Brandy McCadney remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone with information concerning this incident or similar thefts to call the Kenner Police Detective Jeff Adams at (504) 712-2310 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
