Metairie man arrested in road rage incident and assault upon a police officer

Kenner - A Metairie man has been arrested and charged with multiple crimes concerning an incident that occurred in a Wal-Mart parking lot.  On Wednesday, March 26, 2014, James Bloecher, Jr., 29, who provided the home address of 808 Faun Street, Metairie, was arrested and charged with the crimes of aggravated assault upon a police officer, aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal possession of marijuana (3rd offense), reckless operation of a motor vehicle, illegal window tint, expired brake tag and license plate.

The incident began Wednesday about 2:49 p.m., in a Wal-Mart parking lot, located at 8912 Veterans Boulevard, in Kenner, when Bloecher continually sounded his vehicle horn at a vehicle that was waiting for a parking spot.  Bloecher became angry and sped around the waiting vehicle in a reckless manner, which was observed by a police officer working a detail at the location.  The officer who was in full police uniform approached Bloecher who was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition.  Bloecher refused to obey verbal commands and shifted his vehicle in reverse and began to back through the parking lot to avoid the officer until he was blocked by an approaching vehicle.   Having been blocked, Bloecher then shifted his vehicle in drive and rapidly approached the officer who was in the parking lot.  Bloecher struck the officer with the driver side mirror of the Ford Expedition.  Bloecher then sped through the parking lot to make good his escape causing other pedestrians to have to maneuver out the front of his speeding vehicle.  Bloecher fled eastbound into Metairie from the location.

A short time later, the Kenner Police Department, Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, and Louisiana State Police were able to catch up to Bloecher at Transcontinental & Veterans Boulevard.  Bloecher again attempted to evade officers and began throwing objects from inside his vehicle.  The chase ended after Bloecher crashed into an unmarked Task Force vehicle in the 3400 block of Transcontinental in Metairie, where Bloecher was taken into custody.  Bloecher, who has felony convictions for marijuana possession multiple offenses, was found to have thrown several baggies of marijuana from the vehicle while attempting to evade officers.

At the time of this press release, Bloecher remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Chief Steve Caraway urges anyone who witnessed this incident, to call the Kenner Police Detective Adam Schouest at (504) 712-2304 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
