Prostitute, pimp and customer arrested in date-turned-robbery, Kenner cops say
A prostitute, her pimp and her customer were arrested after authorities say their "date" devolved into a robbery. The trio was arrested after a noisy chase through a Kenner hotel that ended in another guest's room, said Sgt. Brian McGregor, spokesman for the Kenner Police.
Jerry Nicholson, 44, of Covington, contacted Cindy Figueroa, 35, of New Orleans, through a personals advertisement on Craigslist, an arrest report said. The two arranged to meet Thursday night (March 6) at a hotel in the 2800 block of Loyola Drive in Kenner.
Figueroa's pimp, James Holmes, 46, of New Orleans, drove her to the hotel about 11:30 p.m., where she negotiated a fee of $175 for sex and partying with Nicholson, McGregor said. But when Nicholson stepped into the bathroom to retrieve a beer, Figueroa snatched $265 in cash from a nearby dresser and dashed out of the room, McGregor said.
Nicholson heard the door slam and stepped out of the bathroom to find his money and Figueroa gone. He spotted Figueroa running down the hallway and gave chase, McGregor said.
Figueroa fled, screaming, down three flights of stairs, prompting some guests to dial 911. She ran into the open room of an unidentified guest on the third floor, followed closely by Nicholson. The two were yelling at one another when police arrived, according to McGregor.
No one was injured, but there was some damage to furniture in the third-floor guest's room. Officers separated the parties and began to question them. At some point, Holmes joined the group, though he stayed quiet as investigators tried to sort out what happened.
Figueroa told officers she had been robbed and denied taking any money from Nicholson, McGregor said. But officers eventually sorted out the details. She and Nicholson confessed to their illicit arrangement. Figueroa also told officers that Holmes was her pimp, McGregor said. He drove her to meet with customers and usually took all of the money she earned.
But Figueroa continued to deny stealing any money from Nicholson, even after jailers discovered exactly $265 in cash hidden in her underwear, McGregor said.
Nicholson, of 211 Christie Court, Covington, was booked Friday (March 7) with prostitution and possession of marijuana. Although bond was set at $1,500, he was released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna without paying because of crowding at the jail.
Holmes, of 2317 Bienville St., New Orleans, was booked with pandering. No bond information was available.
Figueroa, of 324 Bellville St., New Orleans, was booked with prostitution, theft, simple criminal damage to property and using offensive language. Bond was set at $1,750. She was also released without paying because of because of crowding at the jail.
But Figueroa returned to the facility two days later when she was arrested Sunday (March 9) after shoplifting an Internet router from a Kenner store, McGregor said. She tried to swallow cocaine in her possession when confronted by authorities.
Figueroa was booked with possession of derivatives of coca leaves and theft. She was still being held Monday without bond on those charges.
