Kenner Police investigating fatality involving a child
- The Kenner Police Department is presently investigating a
traffic facility involving a 14-month old (female) child.
At approximately 08:55 a.m., Kenner Police began receiving 9-1-1
telephone calls reporting that a child had been struck by a vehicle in
the 2400 block of Taffy Drive, in Kenner.
first responders arrived, it was learned that a mother and father had
exited their residence leaving the front door open to their home.
The mother / wife was assisting her husband in inputting GPS
coordinates into a GPS system inside the vehicle that was backed in a
driveway. Unbeknown to
both, the 14-month old had crawled out the open front door and beneath
the vehicle. As the father
began to pull out his driveway, he ran over the child.
child was transported to University Hospital, where her death was
pronounced. At the present
time this appears to be a tragic accident, and no criminal charges will
be filed. Driver impairment
does NOT appear to be a factor in this fatality.
As in any fatality death, the matter will be forwarded to the
Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.
