Kenner man arrested in armed robbery that occurred outside bank

 Kenner - On Tuesday, October 14, 2014, at approximately 09:08 a.m., members of the Kenner Police Department responded to a pedestrian armed robbery which occurred outside the Capital One Bank located at 1000 West Esplanade Avenue, in Kenner. 

 There officers met with the 63 year old male victim, who reported he had just withdrew currency from the bank and was entering his vehicle when he was approached by an unknown black male who placed a silver handgun against his head.  The suspect began to struggle with the victim while demanding his money.  During the struggle, the victim sustained a laceration to his left ear from being struck with the gun.  After taking the victimís money at gunpoint, the suspect fled to an awaiting white van and fled. 

 Kenner Police Officers / Detectives responding to the armed robbery, discovered the van used in the armed robbery abandoned behind the strip mall located at 1000 West Esplanade Avenue, in Kenner with a stolen / switched license plate.  The van was registered to Antony Hicks, 58, of Kenner.  Hicks who has a prior armed robbery and drug conviction matched the suspect description provided.  Hicks was later identified by the victim as the perpetrator of the armed robbery. 

 Kenner Police later located Hicks leaving his residence located at 3019 Illinois Avenue, in Kenner where he was taken into custody.  Hicks has been arrested and charged with the crime of armed robbery and aggravated battery. 

At the time of this press release; Hicks remains in custody, no bond has been set. 

 This incident remains under investigation.  Kenner Police are attempting to identify the getaway driver concerning this incident.  No description was provided concerning the second suspect.  In addition, the stolen license plate was found to have been stolen in September from a vehicle parked in the 3100 block of Phoenix Street, in Kenner.
