Driver drives around crossing gates struck by train

 Kenner - At approximately 2:02 p.m., Thursday, October 09, 2014, Kenneth Morgan, 45, of St. Rose, was driving a 2007 Toyota Corolla southbound in the 400 block of Alliance Street, in Kenner.  Upon reaching the railroad crossings, the railroad crossing arms were in the down position due to an east bound train. Morgan attempted to beat the approaching train and drove around the crossing arms.  As the result of this traffic violation, Morganís vehicle was struck by the train on the rear passenger side.  Morgan who claimed neck and back pain was transported to East Jefferson Hospital by EMS to be evaluated.  The train, belonging to CN Railway, had 3 locomotives with 96 cars which was carrying coal. 

 Morgan will be cited upon his release from the hospital with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driverís license and driving around crossing gates.
