Kenner Police investigating fatality crash on I-10

Kenner - The Kenner Police Department is presently investigating a fatality crash that occurred in the 300 block of the I-10 Eastbound in Kenner.

At approximately 11:48 a.m., the Kenner Police Department received numerous 9-1-1 calls reporting a traffic crash on the I-10 (Eastbound) at the Loyola Drive exit, involving a white Ford Focus and a motorcycle.   Upon officers’ arrival, witnesses advised that the 2014 Ford Focus, driven by a 68 year old male from Hammond, Louisiana, appeared to be exiting Loyola Drive, when he merged back into the right lane into the path of an eastbound motorcyclist who was operating a 2006 Harley Davidson.  The driver of the Harley Davidson identified as Edwin L. Fortier III, 52, of Metairie struck the rear of the Ford Focus.

As the result of the crash; Fortier was fatality injured.   His death was pronounced on scene.  Fortier was wearing a helmet which was not DOT certified.

Driver impairment concerning the driver of the Ford Focus does not appear to be a factor in this fatality crash.  The driver passed an intoxilyzer test given.

At the present time no criminal charges has been filed.  The investigation once complete will be forwarded to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office for review.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone who may have witnessed this fatality crash to call Kenner Police Traffic Investigator Jacob Tolpi at (504) 712-2425.
