Citizen involvement and quick response credited for recent burglary arrests

 Kenner - Alert citizens reporting suspicious activity and quick response resulted in three people arrested in separate vehicle burglary incidents this week, in Kenner. 

 The first incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 7:13 p.m., when a citizen called the Kenner Police Department to report a man breaking into a vehicle in the 1400 block of Roosevelt Boulevard, in Kenner.  Officers responding to the location located Dennis Ochoa-Romero, 23, of Metairie who attempted to run from officers.  Officers captured Ochoa-Romero who resisted arrest (by attempting to kick and spat on an officer).  An investigation revealed while in the process of breaking into a vehicle on Roosevelt Boulevard, Ochoa-Romero cut his hand causing a laceration while attempting to take property left within a vehicle.   

 The second incident occurred on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, at 10:43 p.m., when a guest of the Double Tree Hotel, located at 2150 Veterans Boulevard, Kenner, called the Kenner Police Department and reported that a male suspect was pulling on door handles in the parking lot of the hotel.  Officers responding to the location located and detained the suspect; Ryan Duvernay, 23, of Kenner.  Duvernay was interviewed and admitted he was attempting to locate unlocked vehicles within the parking, in an effort to steal money left inside.   Duvernay was able to find one vehicle unlocked that he entered and took change.

 The third incident occurred on Thursday, October 22, 2015, at 04:45 a.m., when a citizen contacted the Kenner Police Department to report a male suspect had entered a vehicle in the 3200 block of Kansas Avenue, in Kenner.  Officers responding to the location, found Luis Fontanez, 31, of Metairie, who attempted to run from officers.  Fontanez was captured, detained, and found to be in possession of a GPS, miscellaneous change, perfumes, cologne, and 8.1 grams of marijuana.    The GPS was found to belong to victim who resided in the 3200 block of Kansas Avenue.   The GPS was taken from the victimís unlocked vehicle.   It was confirmed that Fontanez has entered two unlocked vehicles in the 3200 block of Kansas Avenue. 

 Ochoa-Romero was charged with the crimes of attempt simple burglary, battery on a police officer, and resisting arrest.   He remains in custody.  His bond was set at $11,500.00.

 Duvernay was charged with the crime of simple burglary.  He remains in custody.  His bond was set at $10,000.00. 

 Fontanez was charged with the crimes of simple burglary (2 counts), illegal possession of stolen things, and possession of marijuana.    He remains in custody.  No bond has been set.
