Suspicious person call leads to three arrests for burglarizing unlocked vehicles

 Kenner - On Monday, November 28, 2016, at approximately 12:41 a.m., the Kenner Police Department received a telephone call from a concerned citizen who reported suspicious activity.  The caller advised that there were three males wearing hoodies, in the parking lot of the Tonti Woodlake Apartments, located at 123 West Esplanade Avenue, Kenner, pulling on vehicle door handles.      

 Kenner Police Officers responded to the location and became involved in a short chase with three individuals who were found in possession of stolen property taken from unlocked vehicles.  The property consisted of a .45 caliber handgun, credit cards, and other items. 

 Arrested were:

 

(1)     Everette Campbell, 20, 3511 Inwood Drive, in Algiers

(2)     Desmond Campbell, 17, 3511 Inwood Drive, in Algiers, and

(3)     Taj Merriel, 20, 3931 Kathleen Street, in New Orleans. 

 

 Everette and Desmond Campbell were each charged with the crimes of simple burglary (4-counts) and illegal possession of a stolen firearm.  

 

 Taj Merriel was charged with the crimes of simple burglary (4 counts), illegal possession of a stolen firearm, and a fugitive warrant from NOPD.     

 

 Bond was set at 100,000.00 each.  Although bond was set at $100,000 each, Everette and Desmond Campbell were released from the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center due to prison overcrowding.  Merriell remains in custody. 

 

 Officers Chad Hoffman and Paul Montgomery are in charge of the investigation.
