Amtrak train strikes vehicle

Kenner On January 7, 2016, at 2:18 pm, Kenner Police received a report of an Amtrak passenger train striking a vehicle at the intersection of Hanson and Kenner Avenue. A preliminary investigation revealed a plumbing style truck drove around the crossing guards in an attempt to beat the train. The train collided into the rear of the truck. There were two (2) passengers and the engineer who complained of minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. The driver of the truck did not complain of any injuries and will be cited for no driver’s license and failure to yield to a train.

No streets have been blocked as a result of this crash.

Traffic Officer William Bagert is in charge of the investigation.

Kenner Police Chief Michael Glaser encourages anyone with information on this incident to contact the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111. Callers may remain anonymous.
