New Orleans woman to be charged with 27 counts of simple burglary in Kenner

 KENNER - Melissa Belanger, 40, who was injured last week after leading Jefferson Parish Sheriff Office deputies on a chase that ended in Kenner, will be charged with the crime of simple burglary (27-counts), for crimes she committed in Kenner. 

 Belanger was interviewed yesterday (July 19, 2016), by members of the Kenner Police Department.  Belanger admitted that she has an addiction to Heroin, and would burglarize unlocked vehicles within Kenner to obtain property that she could sell or exchange for Heroin. 

  The vehicle burglaries occurred between June 14th and July 11th, 2016.  Burglaries were reported in the 5400 blocks of Shamrops and Craig, 2400 block of Palm Vista, 3100 block of Maryland, 3500 block of Lake Trail, 4800 and 4900 blocks of Janice, the 5000 and 5100 blocks of Rebecca, the 4300 block of Iowa, the 3300 block of Colorado, and Schill Avenue.  Kenner Police were able to obtain photographs of the suspect (Belanger) and suspect vehicle at the time of the vehicle burglaries which was shared with other police agencies.  

  At the time of this press release, Belanger remains in custody.
