New Orleans juvenile on probation and wearing ankle monitor arrested for Kenner Carjacking

Kenner - A 15-year-old juvenile, from New Orleans on probation for possession of stolen things (automobile), and wearing an ankle monitor was arrested Tuesday, while participating in a carjacking in the 3700 block of West Louisiana State Drive, in Kenner.

On Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 3:31 p.m., the Kenner Police Department responded to a vehicle theft complaint.  The 28-year-old male victim reported that his vehicle; a silver 2017 Ford Escape was just stolen from the front of his residence.  Officers responding to the stolen vehicle complaint observed the victimís vehicle as it approached the intersection of West Esplanade Avenue at West Loyola Drive.    Officers attempted to conduct a stop on the stolen vehicle, at which time the driver (a 15-year-old male) lead officers on a vehicle chase that ended in the 3800 block of Grandlake Boulevard, where the juvenile struck a curb and abandoned the stolen vehicle, then leading officers on a foot chase to the canal bank where he was arrested.

Upon meeting with the victim, it was learned that he was actually carjacked at gun point.  The victim reported he had just arrived home when a silver Toyota Camry and black Dodge Caravan stopped on West Louisiana State Drive.  A gunman exited the Camry and demanded the victimís vehicle at which time the arrested 15-year-old jumped into the Ford Escape and drove away.   Surveillance photographs show both vehicles utilized in this carjacking (photographs attached).  It is believed that the victim was followed to his residence at the time the carjacking occurred.  The Kenner Police Department charged the 15-year-old with the crimes of carjacking, flight from an officer, illegal possession of stolen things, and no driverís license.  The juvenile also had an outstanding warrant from New Orleans.

The gunman, who is also featured in the attached photographs fled in the Toyota Camry and was able to escape apprehension, along with the driver of the black Dodge Caravan.  At the time of this press release, the 15-year-old remains in custody pending a continued custody / bond hearing.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone who may have information concerning this carjacking and is able to identity the armed suspect featured in this press release, to call the Kenner Police Detective Aaron Savoie at (504) 712-2301 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
