Two charged with Aggravated Burglary

Kenner - On Monday, March 7, 2016, the Kenner Police Department arrested Matthew High, 30, of 529 Central Avenue, apartment 3, Metairie, and Amy Thompson, 32, of 4520 Williams Boulevard, apartment C-224, in Kenner.  Both were charged with the crimes of aggravated burglary.

On Monday, the Kenner Police Department was called to the Sugar Mill apartment complex, located at 4520 Williams Boulevard, in Kenner, to investigate a residential burglary complaint.  Officers met with the 68-year-old victim who reported that on the evening of March 6, 2016, his son was contacted by Amy Thompson requesting to meet him at the Walgreens, located on Williams Boulevard.   The victim left his apartment, and drove and dropped his son off at the Walgreens, located in the 4000 block of Williams Boulevard.  Shortly after returning home, the victim discovered someone had forced and kicked the door to his apartment open.   Upon entering the apartment, the victim, discovered Matthew High inside burglarizing the apartment.  High struck and pushed the victim to the floor to escape.  As High fled the apartment, he dropped his cellular telephone.   Taken from inside the apartment was money and jewelry.

As the victim reviewed the cellular telephone dropped by High, he found text messages, and recognized the two listed suspects’ names in the cellular telephone and realized the break in to his apartment was a set up.

Thompson was located and arrested.  Thompson confessed to setting up the burglary.  All parties are acquainted.  Thompson is also involved in a relationship with High, and claimed that High is addicted to Methadone and needed a fix, is the reason she took part in the planning and luring of the victim and his son from the apartment, in order for High to commit the burglary.  High was located at his apartment on Central Avenue, in Metairie.   At the time of arrest, High was found to be in possession of a watch taken from the victim.   High has prior arrests for aggravated burglary, narcotics offenses, simple battery, and a conviction for simple burglary.   Due to him possessing the stolen watch, he was additionally charged with possession of stolen things.

At the time of this press release, both Thompson and High remain in custody, no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser encourages who may have information concerning  this, or Matthew High and Amy Thompson to call Detective Trey Hille at (504) 712-2213.
