Metairie man in critical condition after crash with fuel truck

Kenner- A 75-year-old Metairie man remains in critical condition after a crash with a fuel truck at 23rd Street & Williams Boulevard, in Kenner.

At approximately 10:28 a.m., the 75-year-old male was operating a 2015 GMC Denali.   According to witnesses the male pulled out the parking lot of Dot’s Diner onto 23rd Street to travel eastbound.  For unknown reasons, the male accelerated and began traveling east in the westbound lane on 23rd Street.  The Denali then disregarded a traffic control device and crashed into a fuel truck that was traveling southbound on Williams Boulevard.  The fuel truck was owned by “Retif Oil & Fuel.”

The driver of the Denali was transported to University Hospital where he remains in critical condition.  The driver of the fuel truck was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in stable condition.  The fuel truck was empty at the time of the crash.   Due to the crash and investigation, Williams Boulevard southbound was closed at 23rd Street for approximately 2 hours.

The traffic crash remains under investigation.  Kenner Police Traffic Officer John Terranova is in charge of the investigation.
