KENNER - Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser announces that the Kenner Police Department has arrested Shaun Barnett, 28, of 329 Pat Drive, in Avondale, concerning the double murder of Raynell Kimbrough, 31, and Dawn Scott, 28, who was shot inside their home on April 4, 2016, in the 2100 block of Idaho Avenue, in Kenner.  Barnett will be booked with the crimes of first degree murder (2-counts) and possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies.

Chief Glaser confirms that Barnett was the original person of interest arrested for parole violations, by the Department of Corrections Probation and Parole East Jefferson District on April 4, 2016.  Barnett was also the person seen driving the gold or champagne colored vehicle seen leaving the area following the murder.  Barnett has been incarcerated at Orleans Parish Prison and at the River Bend Detention Center in East Carroll Parish since his arrest for parole violations.

The Kenner Police Department obtained an arrest warrant Friday, April 29, 2016, after receiving the results of evidence which had been submitted to the Jefferson Parish Crime Laboratory which linked Barnett to the crime.  Barnett was transferred to the custody of the Kenner Police Department and U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Task Force today.

Agencies that have assisted since the start of the investigation are:  The Kenner Police Department, Crimestoppers, U.S. Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence Center and Crime Laboratory, the Department of Corrections Probation and Parole East Jefferson District, and Louisiana State Analytical & Fusion Exchange (LA-SAFE).

At the time of this press release, Barnett remains in custody, no bond has been set.
