Arrest made on man burglarizing Kenner homes

Kenner - On Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at approximately 10:25 a.m., members of the Kenner Police Department arrested Antonio Hernandez, 28, who provided a home address in the 4100 block of Alabama Avenue, in Kenner.  Hernandez was arrested in relation to two residential burglaries, and one attempted residential burglary that occurred in the 4300 block of Arkansas Avenue, the 3100 block of Georgia Avenue, and the 3200 block of Iowa Avenue.   Hernandez was charged with the crimes of simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling (two counts) and attempted simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

The investigation began when Kenner Police received a report from a resident who returned home at about 09:30 a.m., to find that someone had forced entry into their home by breaking the rear bedroom window, in the 4300 block of Arkansas Avenue.  After breaking the window, the suspect, entered the home and rummaged through a jewelry box located within the bedroom.  The suspect cut himself at the time of the burglary and left blood on the scene.

At approximately 10:00 a.m., a 13-year-old who was inside his home in the 3100 block of Georgia Avenue, dialed 9-1-1 to report someone had broken the rear window to the home and made entry.  Kenner Police Sergeant Michael Archuleta who was in the immediate area responded with seconds and observed a male subject running from the residence to a red Ford F-150 parked in front.   Sergeant Archuleta detained the male, who was identified as Antonio Hernandez.  Hernandez was interviewed by Detective Mike Jackson and confessed to his involvement in the two burglaries listed above.  Hernandez told Detective Jackson he had committed the burglaries due to an addiction he had with heroin.

At 1140 hours, Kenner Police also responded to a third residential burglary complaint in the 3200 block of Iowa Avenue.  In this burglary, the resident returned home to find the rear kitchen window screen had been moved and the window broken, however it did not appear to anyone made entry.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser reports that Hernandez told detectives that he has been in Kenner for approximately one month.  It is believed that Hernandez may have committed other burglaries that are currently under investigation.  At the time of this press release, Hernandez remains in cutsody, his bond was set at $100,000.  Chief Glaser encourages those who may have information concerning other residential burglaries, suspicious activity, or Antonio Hernandez, to call the Kenner Police Department at (504) 712-2222.
