Man attempting to elude police in stolen vehicle crashes

 Kenner - On Tuesday, September 6, 2016, the Kenner Police Department arrested Donald J. Harris, 25, of 12400 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and charged him with the crimes of illegal possession of stolen things (vehicle), aggravated flight from an officer, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, driver not licensed, and drugs-schedule IV possession. 

 About 11:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2016, the Kenner Police Department utilizing License Place Recognition Cameras, received a “stolen hit” on a 2006 Honda Accord.  The Honda Accord had been reported stolen September 4, 2016, from the 4300 block of Arkansas Avenue, in Kenner.  Officers patrolling the city, later located the stolen vehicle traveling on Airline Drive.  Upon officers attempting to initiate a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, Harris who was driving refused to stop and led officers on a chase into Metairie then back into the City of Kenner.  Harris eventually lost control of the vehicle and crashed / struck two telephone poles on Vintage Drive.  As a result of the crash residents north of Vintage Drive was without electricity for about two hours.  Harris received minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released back into police custody.   At the time of Harris’ arrest he was also found to illegal possess two white pills which was determined to be Tramadol a schedule IV CDS.  

 

At the time of this press release, Donald J. Harris, remains in custody, no bond has been set.
