Convicted felon shooting gun arrested

Kenner - On Monday, February 13, 2017, the Kenner Police Department arrested Jimmy Humphrey, 56, who provided the home address of 310 Taylor Street, in Kenner.  Humphrey was charged with the crimes of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, illegal discharge of a weapon, and disturbing the peace (intoxication).

On Monday, February 13, 2017, at 9:22 p.m., the Kenner Police Department received a complaint in reference to an individual firing a gun in the 300 block of Filmore Street, in Kenner.  Witnesses initially reported that they observed Humphrey, who was wearing a black sweatshirt, laying on the ground on a side of a residence in the 300 block of Filmore Street.   Witnesses advised Humphrey was in possession of a handgun that he had wrapped in a red bandanna.  Humphrey then got up and walked northbound on Filmore Street, at which time he randomly fired the gun he had in his possession 4-times.

Offices searching the area for Humphrey, located him in the 2400 block of Kenner Avenue.  Upon detaining Humphrey, he appeared intoxicated and was found to possess a Smith and Wesson model 36 .38 special handgun, which contained 4 spent casings.  Humphrey was prohibited from possessing a firearm due to a felony conviction in which he plead guilty in Jefferson Parish to the crime of possession of cocaine on 8/18/2008.

At the time of this press release, Humphrey remains in custody no bond has been set.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser encourages anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or has information concerning Jimmy Humphrey to contact Officer Matthew Bondio at (504) 712-2222, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
