Convicted felon arrested with firearm

Kenner - On Monday, July 24, 2017, Jacoby Carter, 20, who provided the home address of 2629 Phoenix Street, in Kenner, was arrested and charged with the crimes of possession of a firearm by a person convicted of certain felonies, illegal carrying of weapons, possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanor possession of marijuana, and pedestrian in roadway.

On Monday, July 24, 2017, at 10:30 p.m., Kenner Police Officers Brian Kahrs and Chad Stroyewski attempted to conduct a pedestrian stop of Carter in the 2700 block of Jasper Street, in Kenner.  Carter was walking in the street where sidewalks were provided and refused to move for an oncoming vehicle.  As officers were attempting to conduct the stop, Carter fled, by running and discarded a handgun (9mm) that he had concealed in his waistband, beneath a vehicle.  Carter was captured and detained.  At the time Carter was detained, he was found also to possess .5 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Carter was also found to have pled guilty to the crime of simple burglary (1/7/2015), which prevents him from owning or possessing a firearm.

At the time of this press release, Carter remains in custody, no bond has been set.  The gun that Carter possessed was not listed as stolen at the time of recovery.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone with information concerning Jacoby Carter to call Kenner Police Officer Brian Kahrs at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
