Pedestrian succumbs to injuries after being struck by bus

Kenner - The Kenner Police Department are investigating a traffic fatality involving a Jefferson Transit bus and pedestrian that occurred at the corner of Reverend Richard Wilson Drive (3rd Street) and Coleman Place, in Kenner.

At approximately 9:57 p.m., on Thursday, August 31, 2017, the Kenner Police Department received a 9-1-1 call from a female who reported a “dead body” at the location.  Responding officers along with EMS arrived on scene and found an unresponsive male who was immediately transported to University Hospital.

Preliminary investigation revealed the location was a Jefferson Transit bus turnaround.  Notably in the grass was large ruts in addition to a mud flap.  Jefferson Transit was contacted and assisted with the investigation.  As the result of the investigation, it was learned that the pedestrian was struck by the bus, screamed, and was dragged a short distance.  The bus driver stopped, exited the bus and was unable to locate anyone due to poor lighting in the area, then left the scene.

At the present time, no criminal charges have been filed.

At University Hospital, the male struck death was pronounced.  At the present time, the victim’s identity will not be released pending proper identification and family notification.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser encourages anyone who may have any information regarding this fatality investigation, to contact Kenner Police Traffic Supervisor Sergeant Jon Cryer at (504) 712-2336.
