Phone scammers claiming to work for Entergy threaten to disconnect
service for past due payments
Kenner Police have responded to recent
reports of phone scams in which homeowners are contacted by a caller who
identified their self as working for Entergy and were calling to collect
on past due payments. The
caller threatened to disconnect their electrical service unless the
victim immediately pays the past due amount by Western Union.
The victims are instructed to go to the nearest Western Union
service and call back a phone number provided to them.
Instructions would be provided to them of where to wire the
Police recommend the following tips to help avoid falling prey to these
types of scams:
suspicious of callers who demand immediate payment for any reason.
Never give out personal or
financial information to anyone who e-mails or calls you unsolicited.
provide debit or credit card numbers to anyone you do not know.
companies and government agencies will not contact you demanding
immediate payment by Western Union or Green Dot Money Pak.
