Kenner Police are investigating an early morning homicide

On February 16, 2018 at 12:30 AM Kenner Police Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Daniel Street, Kenner in reference to reports of a large group fighting and gunfire.

Officers arrived on scene and found a male subject on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.  Paramedics arrived and rendered first aid.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.  The victimís name is not being released pending notification of family.

A witness provided a description of the suspect vehicle involved in the shooting and described the passenger of the vehicle to have his arm out the window holding a gun.

Officers responding to the shooting observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Airline Highway matching the description provided by the witness and initiated a traffic stop.  A handgun was recovered on the roadway near the traffic stop and additional evidence was found in the vehicle. The witness identified the vehicle as being involved in the shooting.  Five occupants of the vehicle were detained and are being interviewed.

It was later determined that two groups of subjects were in front of the Enigma Bar located at 1820 Airline Drive, Kenner.  One group left from in front of the bar and walked to a car parked in the 800 block of Daniel Street.  The second group followed and engaged in a fight with the first group.  Gunfire erupted and all involved dispersed, with one group leaving the scene in a red color Chevrolet Cobalt.  Minutes later the vehicle returned to the scene of the fight and the passenger fired a single gunshot from the suspect vehicle killing the victim.

The investigation is ongoing and an arrest appears imminent.

Kenner Police Chief Michael J. Glaser urges anyone who has any information about these incidents to call the Kenner Police at (504) 712-2222 or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
