*UPDATE: Victim of homicide identified, suspect arrested and confesses to murder

 The victim of the homicide has been identified as Arnold Matute-Vasquez, 22, from Terrytown.

 Edwin Gomez-Duarte, 18, of Harvey has been arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder and Obstruction of Justice.  Gomez-Duarte was identified by several witnesses as the person who fired the handgun from a vehicle killing Arnold Matute-Vasquez and also to discarding the handgun from the vehicle stopped by police. 

 Gomez-Duarte has confessed to the homicide and discarding the gun.  He stated he has had an ongoing dispute with associates of the victim and that he (Gomez-Duarte) was shot in the foot a month earlier by those associates.

 Gomez-Duarte stated the victim was present during the initial fight.  After fleeing from the initial fight Gomez-Duarte directed the driver to circle the block at which time he spotted victim and fired the shot which killed him.  

 All other occupants of the vehicle were unaware of Gomez-Duarte’s plan to shoot and were not charged.
